Recruitment Strategy

General considerations

General considerations in selecting a recruitment strategy include factors such as: location; labor market conditions; level of the position to be filled; pay and benefits; company promotion policies; time and budget constraints; and affirmative action goals.

Attracting candidates

Attracting and hiring the best candidate can be affected through the recruitment sources used and "employment branding" which is the process of positioning an organization as an “employer of choice” in the labor market through a value proposition.

Recruiting effectiveness

The amount of time it takes to fill a position, or recruitment cycle, can be an effective measure of the organization's recruiting effectiveness. Evaluating the success of an organization's recruitment efforts is crucial. Without the use of metrics and careful assessment, organizations tend to recruit the way they always have, possibly without regard to important issues that effect time and cost. Yield ratios should be used to help evaluate the effectiveness of recruiting sources and recruiters. Yield ratios will help identify weaknesses and help to identify areas to correct which can shorten the recruitment cycle.

Recruiting costs

Most organizations want to keep recruitment costs down. Costs can vary depending on recruitment sources used and recruitment cycle times. When calculating costs, organizations should account for both direct and indirect costs. Direct expenses include advertising, recruiters' salaries, recruitment materials, training costs, agency fees, etc.... Indirect expenses include involvement of managers, impact on coworkers of unfilled vacancies, etc... Yield ratios can be used to help identify how effectively the recruiting dollars are being spent and what areas in the process need to be changed.

Our specific services

We can help to:

  • Develop an organizational employment branding strategy and evaluate the effectiveness of current recruitment sources
  • Establish documentation methods that lend themselves to using yield ratios as well as review prior data to assess past recruiting effectiveness
  • Develop the metrics to help measure the cost effectiveness of recruitment dollars spent and determine the true costs per source / cost per hire
  • Identify and eliminate unnecessary recruiting costs
